The SHRM Arabic exam gives eligible HR professionals the option to take a SHRM certification exam in Arabic. For candidates who work mainly in Arabic, this can make it easier to focus on HR scenarios rather than translation. However, choosing a language is only one part of preparation. You also need to understand the certification level, test format, and rules that apply to your location.
What Is the SHRM Arabic Exam?
SHRM offers the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP exams in Arabic, as well as English. Both language options assess relevant HR knowledge and behavioral skills described in the official SHRM certification guidance. The Arabic-language test is not a separate qualification or an easier credential.
Why Choose an Arabic-Language SHRM Exam?
The main benefit is language comfort. Candidates who regularly discuss policies, employee relations, and workplace decisions in Arabic may find translated questions easier to follow. At the same time, the SHRM Arabic exam requires careful analysis of workplace situations and a sound understanding of HR principles. Language preference should support your preparation, not replace it.
SHRM Arabic Exam vs. English Exam: Main Benefits
The table below compares the learning experience rather than fees or registration details. The best choice depends on how confidently you read professional HR scenarios in each language.
| What matters | Arabic exam | English exam |
|---|---|---|
| Question language | Arabic | English |
| Potential advantage | More comfortable reading for Arabic-first professionals | Familiar wording for professionals who work mainly in English |
| Study approach | Review Arabic resources and learn key English HR terms | Study directly with English HR terminology |
| Best fit | Candidates who understand workplace scenarios best in Arabic | Candidates who understand workplace scenarios best in English |
| Credential | SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP | SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP |
Who Can Take the SHRM Arabic Exam?
The Arabic-language option is available to residents of countries designated by SHRM. The published list covers several countries across the Gulf, North Africa, and the wider Arab region. SHRM requires candidates taking the translated exam to attend a Prometric test center in person. As rules can change, check the official language and eligibility information before applying.
Some locations have additional screening requirements under applicable U.S. OFAC restrictions. SHRM currently identifies Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen for this process. Review its latest instructions rather than assuming the same rules apply everywhere.
Can You Choose the English Version Instead?
Yes. According to SHRM, eligible residents of designated Arabic-speaking countries are assigned the translated form by default. If you prefer English instead of the SHRM Arabic exam, request that version in writing at shrmcertification@shrm.org. Choose the language in which you can interpret questions accurately and make clear professional judgments.
How to Prepare for SHRM Certification
Start by choosing the right level: SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP. Next, use the SHRM Body of Applied Skills and Knowledge (BASK) to organize your study. An Arabic translation of the BASK is available. Even if you plan to sit the SHRM Arabic exam, it helps to recognize common English HR terms used at work.
- Review relevant SHRM BASK competencies and knowledge areas.
- Practice workplace scenarios, not just definitions.
- Compare important HR terminology in Arabic and English.
- Set a realistic study schedule and revisit weaker topics.
- Confirm current exam rules directly with SHRM before booking.

Course participation does not itself award SHRM certification.

Make an Informed Language Choice
The SHRM Arabic exam can be a practical option for eligible HR professionals who prefer Arabic. However, success depends on HR knowledge, thoughtful practice, and familiarity with current SHRM requirements. Compare the two language options, select the one that fits you, and build a study plan around your chosen certification level.
