IIBA’s core certifications aren’t three competing options — they’re one ladder, and the rung you’re eligible for is decided almost entirely by hours of hands-on business analysis work, not ambition.
The Three Levels

Why Hours, Not Just Time Served
The requirement is hands-on BA hours specifically, not years of general employment. Someone doing business analysis part-time within a broader role accumulates eligibility more slowly than a dedicated analyst — track your hours as you go rather than estimating at application time.
ECBA Doesn’t Require Experience — On Purpose
ECBA is the one exception: no BA experience needed, just 21 hours of professional development training. It exists specifically for people entering the field, giving them a credible credential before they’ve done the work that would qualify them for CCBA.
